Driving Community Transformation
Who We Are
Leading Positive Community Outcomes in Central Ohio
The Central Ohio Parent Leadership Training Institute (COPLTI) empowers parents and communities to create healthy, sustainable, and thriving cultures. We collaborate with public agencies, community organizations, and local governments to amplify parent leadership, partnership, and voice at decision-making tables, fostering caring communities for children.
Our mission is to equip families with civic skills, knowledge, and opportunities to be advocates for children at home, school, and in the community. We believe that a community’s well-being hinges on active civic engagement, especially from parents who possess unique insights into children’s needs.
Through COPLTI, parents become effective leaders and problem solvers, enhancing their ability to influence policies and decisions that impact their communities. Our programs build social capital by creating networks across race and class, and by strengthening problem-solving, goal-setting, and critical thinking skills.
COPLTI’s two-generation strategy includes interactive learning and playtime for children who are also taught parallel content as our parents leaders. This approach promotes lifelong health, safety, and learning, integrating child development, leadership, and democracy skills.
In COPLTI communities, our impact includes increased policy influence, positive neighborhood changes, and the development of pro-family policies by policymakers. By empowering parents, we contribute to establishing equitable and vibrant communities for all children.
Our Fiscal Sponsor
COPLTI is supported, in part, by our fiscal sponsor, Asbury North United Methodist Church (Asbury North UMC). The Asbury North UMC is a faith-based ministry with a rich history of serving the near east side community in Columbus. For over 150 years, the church has been committed to its mission of “Loving God, Serving People” and has opened its doors to serve the intergenerational needs of the community.
Asbury North UMC has served as a host for several community events and programs, including Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, Woodland Homeowners Association meetings, and monthly community dinners, where the King’s Clothing Free Store is also made available. The church has also partnered with other churches in the area to provide seasonal worship experiences for the community. In addition, Asbury North UMC has been involved in community development efforts, including the restoration of the St. Claire Hotel and the Bread Ministry to fight hunger. The church has also provided summer enrichment programs for children and services for seniors through the Life Care Alliance Meals-On-Wheels and Senior Companion Program.
Asbury North UMC is supportive of the community revitalization investment funding to be given to Partners Achieving Community Transformation (PACT) and the near east side neighborhood. The church recognizes the importance of community development and investment to address the complex challenges faced by the community. Through its longstanding commitment to serving the near east side, Asbury North UMC stands ready to collaborate with COPLTI, PACT, and other organizations to support the revitalization efforts of the neighborhood.
